Summit: The Woken Word
In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in racist and discriminatory rhetoric and violence. Black and Latinx communities are marginalized by exclusionary systems that were not designed or built with our diverse communities in mind. Meanwhile our industry---full of companies pioneering new technology and tackling some of the world’s most difficult problems---struggles with inequity within its halls. In a space where people shape the future and redefine what is possible, we see rampant injustice, limiting Black and Latinx people’s access to careers, the ability to create transformative products, and the opportunity to build wealth in the innovation economy.
The answer to this injustice lies in all of us. More than ever, Code2040’s mission for racial equity in the innovation economy requires the mobilization of a community of Black and Latinx technologists and their allies and accomplices. This is difficult, exhausting work. Whether you are a college student breaking into computer science or the head of diversity and inclusion at a major tech company, we want to empower you to find and build your voice and we want to help you make your voice heard.

DEADLINE // 2018 Early Career Accelerator Program
The Early Career Accelerator Program is a cohort program geared towards Black and Latinx professionals in the beginnings of their tech career. Individuals will receive socio-emotional, professional, and management development through in-person workshops, mentorship and coaching, and online engagement. In this program, we’ll build community, make space to commiserate, and most importantly: find tactical solutions to the roadblocks we face in our workplaces. Our goal is to ensure that our communities are able to go beyond surviving in the workplace and thrive.

PopUp: Getting Ahead
Introducing Code2040 PopUps! This new event series will provide more opportunities for our community to come together for the advancement of Black/Latinx brilliance in tech.
There’s no shortage of career-focused events in the Bay Area, nor is there a shortage of events focused on discussing diversity. But there are few events that focus on the unique challenges that Black and Latinx techies face while navigating their careers. Unconscious bias and structural racism create invisible barriers, unique hoops, and often unforeseen ceilings for Black and Latinx professionals. Thankfully, those who came before us have experienced these challenges, faced uncertainty in their careers, and climbed the ladder.
The theme of the inaugural Code2040 PopUp is “Getting Ahead.” Join us for stories and strategies about keeping skills up to date, deciding when to leave or join a company, taking financial risks and planning for financial uncertainty, developing sponsorship and strategic self-advocacy, and more.
How do you negotiate a raise or a promotion? How do you assess your skills and create a support system that helps you grow? When is it time to pivot to a new career, new company, or to start something of your own? We’ll discuss these topics and more at Code2040’s first ever PopUp!
Food & drinks will be provided.
This is a FREE event. RSVP to save your spot!
