Welcome Weekend 2024

In the fast-paced and often isolating industry of tech, we understand the importance of connection, collaboration, and community amongst Black and Latinx tech workers at all levels. That's why we're committed to creating a space where students and the Code2040 community can come together and imagine a future of racial equity within the tech industry.

Welcome Weekend is a 3 day in-person opportunity for fellows to build community and understand the bigger WHY of the Fellows Program. We invite other community members who have been active in our work (alumni, current & previous volunteers, mentors, etc.) on Day 2 to build connections, learn tools for growth in racial equity advocacy work, and imagine a future of racial equity within the tech industry.

Please be advised that tickets for this event are limited. We kindly request that you ensure your availability before your RSVP to allow others the opportunity to attend. Thank you for your understanding.

This RSVP also assumes that you will be attending all events during the day. For an accurate headcount, please email brionna@code2040.org if your plans change.

2019 Code2040 Summit: The Code for Justice

We're so excited to present the next edition of our annual conference, the Code2040 Summit! This year's theme is "The Code for Justice." Through panels, keynotes, workshops, and sessions, we'll explore topics at the intersection of racial equity, technology, and justice. Keep reading for more information on presenter opportunities and this year's updated structure.

Join us Saturday, July 27th, 2019 from 9:00am-5:00pm at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, CA

Tickets are now ON-SALE!

**Tickets include entry to the Summit as well as our post-Summit party, Kick It!

Note: We are using a tiered ticketing system in order to accommodate different members of our community, no matter what phase of your career you’re in or what title you hold. Please read the description under each tier and purchase the ticket that applies to you.

New Structure with Equity at the Center

This year we’re doing things a little differently. In the past, the Code2040 Summit has taken place over two days (a Friday and Saturday). This year, we will host our community for one day, Saturday, July 27th from 9am-5pm. You’ll still get all of the joy, connection, and excitement you’ve come to love at the Summit: original content, space to network and build community, great food, and of course, our post-Summit party, Kick It!

We chose to experiment with this Summit model to accommodate our Fellows and other community members who are unable to miss work during the week. We’re also cognizant of the power and energy such a large production requires and have been thinking as a team about sustainability and our commitment to not burning out!

Our commitment to equity extends to our partnerships and our cost structure. On the partnership side, we've chosen to partner with companies who are actively doing the work it takes to embody our racial equity values and principles. As far as cost structure---from payments to presenters to ticket pricing---we're honoring the value of the work done to create a space of learning and connecting while also holding the different abilities to pay and participate. We're doing this by creating a new tiered ticketed structure for companies and individuals.

Summit: The Woken Word

In recent years, there has been an alarming increase in racist and discriminatory rhetoric and violence. Black and Latinx communities are marginalized by exclusionary systems that were not designed or built with our diverse communities in mind. Meanwhile our industry---full of companies pioneering new technology and tackling some of the world’s most difficult problems---struggles with inequity within its halls. In a space where people shape the future and redefine what is possible, we see rampant injustice, limiting Black and Latinx people’s access to careers, the ability to create transformative products, and the opportunity to build wealth in the innovation economy.

The answer to this injustice lies in all of us. More than ever, Code2040’s mission for racial equity in the innovation economy requires the mobilization of a community of Black and Latinx technologists and their allies and accomplices. This is difficult, exhausting work. Whether you are a college student breaking into computer science or the head of diversity and inclusion at a major tech company, we want to empower you to find and build your voice and we want to help you make your voice heard.

PopUp: Getting Ahead

Introducing Code2040 PopUps! This new event series will provide more opportunities for our community to come together for the advancement of Black/Latinx brilliance in tech.

There’s no shortage of career-focused events in the Bay Area, nor is there a shortage of events focused on discussing diversity. But there are few events that focus on the unique challenges that Black and Latinx techies face while navigating their careers. Unconscious bias and structural racism create invisible barriers, unique hoops, and often unforeseen ceilings for Black and Latinx professionals. Thankfully, those who came before us have experienced these challenges, faced uncertainty in their careers, and climbed the ladder.

The theme of the inaugural Code2040 PopUp is “Getting Ahead.” Join us for stories and strategies about keeping skills up to date, deciding when to leave or join a company, taking financial risks and planning for financial uncertainty, developing sponsorship and strategic self-advocacy, and more.

How do you negotiate a raise or a promotion? How do you assess your skills and create a support system that helps you grow? When is it time to pivot to a new career, new company, or to start something of your own? We’ll discuss these topics and more at Code2040’s first ever PopUp!

Food & drinks will be provided.

This is a FREE event. RSVP to save your spot!

Special thanks to our host: CircleCI

About the Code2040 PopUp Series Code2040’s new PopUp Series will pilot an outgrowth of the organization’s successful student-focused programs like the Fellows Program, and events like the Summit, with a series of stand-alone workshops and panels designed to engage a broader community of participants, particularly rising Black and Latinx tech professionals. These PopUps will be hosted by trusted, mission-aligned company partners, scaling Code2040’s ability to create unique spaces for Black and Latinx experiences across the industry.
